Bennetts BSB: Vickers completes superb double at Circuito de Navarra

21 April 2024

Ryan Vickers overcame a huge last lap moment at the final corner to claim his first Bennetts British Superbike Championship winning double at Circuito de Navarra for the OMG GRILLA Yamaha Racing team, crossing the line 0.277s ahead of Danny Kent and Kyle Ryde.

At the start of the race, Ryde had launched to the front from Kent and Vickers, but by the fifth lap, the McAMS Racing Yamaha rider had made a decisive move into turn one to take the lead.

Kent was able to hold off his rivals until lap nine when Vickers stormed back ahead and despite Kent and Ryde pushing him hard, the OMG GRILLA Yamaha Racing rider was determined and maintained his advantage to lead the standings ahead of Oulton Park. His Yamaha rivals Kent and Ryde completed the podium line-up.

It was disappointment for Bridewell when he was forced to retire from the podium fight on the ninth lap. The Honda Racing UK rider had carved his way through to third from his row three start, proving his pace on the new Fireblade.

It was a strong race for Leon Haslam as the ROKiT Haslam Racing BMW Motorrad rider claimed fourth place with the edge over Christian Iddon on the Oxford Products Racing Ducati and the Completely Motorbikes Kawasaki pairing of Jason O'Halloran and Max Cook.

Glenn Irwin had a more difficult race two to finish in eighth place for the Hager PBM Ducati team ahead of Charlie Nesbitt and Peter Hickman who completed the top ten. It was also disappointment for Rory Skinner who was forced to retire, whilst Fraser Rogers was unhurt after a fast crash at turn four.
