Quattro Group British Supersport and GP2 Championships: Reigning champ Currie tops testing

19 April 2024

Quattro Group British Supersport champion Ben Currie picked up where he left off last season after taking charge in the official test at Circuito de Navarra.

Back on board the Oxford Products Racing Ducati and proudly running the coveted number one plate, the Australian pipped returning former champ Jack Kennedy by 0.211secs with a best lap of 1min 39.620secs, set in the penultimate session of the day.

Kennedy, who returns this year on the Honda Racing UK machine, clocked his best lap of the two-day test on his final lap of the last session, but it wasn’t enough to beat Currie’s earlier lap, as he settled for second quickest.

Third was Davey Todd, who has enjoyed a solid two days on his Powertoolmate Ducati and set exactly the same time as Macadam Triumph Racing’s Luke Stapleford in fourth.

Brad Perie, back from a season in BSB and now riding the Gearlink Kawasaki, ended the test fifth overall.

In GP2, Jack Nixon won the battle of the former Junior Superstock champions and the Kramers, as he led team-mate Owen Jenner to be quickest in class, as Nykos Racing’s Owen Mellor was third quickest.
