Facundo Llambias left it late to take pole position in qualifying for the Campeonato de España de Superbikes on Saturday morning at the Circuito de Navarra.
The Kawasaki rider's best time of 2m00.540s came on his final lap, toppling Yamaha rider Steven Odendaal, who took over top spot with five minutes remaining.
With the South African rider seemingly on course for pole, Llambias found a half second improvement on his final lap to take pole with a three tenth of a second margin.
Odendaal had to settle for second place, ahead of Team Honda Laglisse's Eduardo Montero, who had led the times in the initial stages, with his teammate and championship leader Unai Orradre fourth.
Kawasaki's Roman Ramos was a tenth of a second further back in fifth, ahead of the similar machine of WorldSBK contender Tito Rabat in sixth.
Daniel Saez (Yamaha), Ville Valtonen, Ivo Lopes (BMW) and Borja Gomez (Honda) completed the top-10.
The first ESBK race of the weekend is due to start at 16.30 local time.
