Circuito de Navarra hosts two rounds of the ESBK Spanish Superbike Championship this season, and the first of these could be absolutely crucial with two riders tied at the top of the standings. Steven Odendaal and Borja Gómez will both arrive at the venue in northern Spain on 122 points ahead of two races on 19/20 July.
Gómez leads the standings courtesy of his greater winning record so fat this season, with four victories to his name, including in the most recent race of the season at MotorLand Aragón. Odendaal has been competitive all year though, finishing on the podium in every race to remain equal with his rival on points despite only winning half as many races.
Odendaal’s most recent victory also came at MotorLand, a day prior to the win for Gómez so both competitors will arrive at Circuito de Navarra high in confidence.
Whilst only Gómez and Odendaal have won, there are other riders still in the fight, including Roman Ramos Álvaro and Ivo Lopes. Both men have previously won the SBK class outright, Lopes winning twice and most recently in 2023, so neither should be counted out.
These star riders will take to the track for two headline SBK races at Circuito de Navarra with one race on each day, and it will be an absolutely key weekend as the series reaches the halfway point.
