Championship leader Thomas Strauven claimed pole position for the opening F4 Spanish Championship race of the weekend at Circuito de Navarra, after edging out his rivals on the Saturday morning of the NAPA Racing Weekend.

Strauven lapped the course in northern Spain in 1m45.831 at the wheel of his Tatuus T-421 run by the Griffin Core team. His nearest rival by the end of the session was Rene Lammers, son of former Grand Prix driver and Le Mans winner Jan Lammers, who managed a best time just over two tenths of a second behind Strauven.

Jan Przyrowski, who entered the weekend as Strauven’s main title rival was a further handful of hundredths behind in third with Vivek Kanthan, fourth overall, claiming honours as the top rookie. Juan Cota rounded out the top-five.

Behind that, Reno Francot lapped just under three and a half tenths away from Strauven’s leading pace to take sixth one place ahead of Noah Monteiro – another driver with a famous father in former F1 contender Tiago Monteiro.

Ean Eyckmans, Miguel Costa and Matus Ryba completed the top-10 ahead of the first race of the weekend later on this afternoon. Click here to watch live streaming of all this weekend’s races.
