F4 Spanish Championship Race 3: Lammers holds off Strauven for win

04 May 2025

René Lammers followed up his first Spanish F4 victory with a second consecutive win in an eventful third and final F4 Spanish Championship race at Circuito de Navarra.

From fourth on the grid, the Dutchman, son of 1980s F1 racer Jan, got a great launch off the line in his MP Motorsport machine to move into second before turn one, as pole sitter MP teammate Juan Cota dropped down to third, with Ean Eyckmans launching into an early lead.

There was immediate drama on lap one as British driver Nathan Tye made contact with Noah Monteiro, spinning into the path of the pack and making contact with several cars; bringing out the safety car.

At the restart, Eyckmans held his nerve to hold off Lammers, who immediately set about pressuring for the race lead. Behind, pole sitter Cota began to struggle as Andrej Petrovic (T-Code) made a move for third, running both drivers off the track at the final turn and allowing Griffin Core’s Thomas Strauven to pass the pair and move up to third.

Up front, Lammers dived for the lead on lap eight, overtaking Eyckmans into the hairpin and moving into first place. The Dutchman quickly pulled out a 1.5 second lead as Strauven began to cruise up to the back of Eyckmans, quickly catching and overtaking  the MP driver.

Clearly the fastest driver in the final stages of the race, Strauven closed to within a second of the leading MP driver, as a tense final lap saw Lammers hold off Strauven to win by just over two tenths, his second victory in the series.

Strauven therefore finished an impressive second for Griffin Core, with Lammers’ MP teammate Eyckmans rounding out the podium in third to secure a rookie class win. T-Code’s Petrovic came home in fourth, while Jan Przyrowski (Griffin Core) rounded out the top five.

In sixth was the KCL MP Motosport of Reno Francot, followed by his teammate Hudson Schwartz in seventh. Pole sitter Juan Cota finished eighth for MP Motorsport after being involved in non-stop battles, while Campos Racing’s Vivek Kanthan crossed the line in ninth. Niklas Schaufler completed the top-10 for KCL MP Motorsport.
