Work continues apace on the first of two redevelopment phases at Circuito de Navarra in northern Spain, following MotorSport Vision’s (MSV) recent announcement of a multi-million Euro improvement project at the site.
Completion of the first phase of the works is scheduled for the end of next week, which will ensure that the circuit will be ready to return to full use for track day activity by the middle of the month.
The most noticeable on-track alteration during this initial period of the upgrade programme is the complete reprofiling of Turn 6, transforming the bend into a much faster and more flowing section of the circuit. Work on this part of the venue is accelerating towards a conclusion, with the reprofiling of the route well underway.
Construction of the new asphalt at Turn 6 has already begun and this is expected to progress to completion during the next week. In tandem with the creation of a redesigned corner, new kerbs and significantly upgraded drainage have been installed.
In the week commencing 4 March, the noticeably bumpy section of the circuit from the start finish line to Turn 2 is being milled using the latest 3D road planing technology to re-level it, before being completely resurfaced with new high specification asphalt. The same treatment will be applied to the section into the notoriously uneven T5, eradicating the two most criticised bumpy sections of the circuit completely.
Other projects completed during this phase of development include the reconstruction and protection of 17 marshal post installations at various points around the lap. A major overhaul of the venue’s CCTV camera systems is underway this week too at the same time as the significant installation of FIA and FIM approved EM Motorsport flag signalling panels, start light system and info panel.
Once the key elements of this first construction phase are complete, ongoing aesthetic improvements will continue with painting and cleaning planned ahead of the first scheduled circuit activity on Saturday 16 March and ongoing after in preparation for the upcoming racing season. The venue hosts its first race event of the year on 20/21 April when the Bennetts British Superbike Championship makes its first visit to Spain.
